Warning: 2 PeterExemple

Here’s Your Sign
Have you caught on to the theme of this book and devotional yet? It’s super obvious! If you haven’t, well here’s your big flashing sign yelling and screaming, cling to the truth of God’s Word! Don’t be fooled by false teachings! Jesus’ return is imminent! This book can seem very repetitive, but it’s because we constantly need the same reminders and warnings. I have made the same mistake many times, so obviously I need to be reminded not to do that over and over and over again. We have a choice though. We can be put to sleep by the reminders in this book and ignore them, or we can allow them to wake us up to the truth that is being shared.
There was a guy named Eutychus in the book of Acts who literally fell asleep as Paul was preaching, fell out of a window and died. Don’t be too sad, he was miraculously healed and brought back to life. But I do wonder, how often is that us? How often do we “fall asleep” as God’s Word is being taught? So as you read this, really take it in. Do you take these warnings seriously? Do these reminders stir something inside of you?
Unfortunately, I would say I have failed at this many times. I have “fallen asleep” when hearing God’s Word. I have felt above a reminder, like I didn’t need it. I am so thankful though that, “the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9). So even though I mess up, even though I need constant reminders and warnings, God is patient with me. God wants to give me chances. He’s cheering me on as I run my race and He’s doing the same for you.
