March 7 Introduction Today’s reading is a psalm that expresses both suffering and praise. The opening questions and complaints are balanced at the end by expressions of trust, confidence, and praise. Today’s Reading Psalm 22 Reflect Today’s reading is a psalm that is often read in many churches on Good Friday, a day that marks the crucifixion of Christ. The opening question (verse 1), which expresses a feeling of abandonment, is quoted by Jesus from the cross (see Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34), and this kind of question often appears in prayers for help (see Psalm 13:1, 2). What other verses in this psalm bring to mind Jesus’s suffering on the cross? How does the first part of the psalm (verses 1-21) differ from the second part (verses 22-31)?
