Sermon Title: Are all sins the same to God?

So are all sins equal in God's eyes? Simply put, NO.
And Jesus does not want us to view it that way either..

What is sin?
Sin is simply any act of disobeying God

Now just to be clear, the goal today is not to shame anyone in this room who may have committed some of the worse sins, or to puff up anyone who hasn't committed the greater sins...... Stay with me....Ill explain.

So let's first talk about how sins are equal.Sin equally condemns the sinner, because even the smallest ofsins is an expression of rebellion against the Holy God.

Sin is all equal in the fact that no matter the sin, sin has separated all of us from God and has placed us under judgement.

Sin has placed all of us in the same position before God, " fallen short of his glory".

no matter how big or small, any sin makes us guilt before Holy God.

Does God consider some sins worse than others and do some sins have greater affects than others? Yes

What Pilate was doing was sinful but what the Pharisees did was worse. they were Gods chosen people, they should have known and been awaiting the messiah and still the rejected him.

Sins committed by leaders are worse than that of lay people in the church because it can lead more people away from christ and have greater negative impact on the testimony of Christ. This is why leader will be judged more strictly.

Some sins are worse because of the greater the effect they have on you and people around you.

Watching pornagraphy in your teenage years is not as bad as having premarital sex and creating a bond between someone who is not your spouse– This doesn't mean you should take any sin lightly.... we run from it!!

Sins are also worse when you know better.

We see this with our kids.
We discipline differently because of what they know or don't know yet.

God was saying to Israel you've done some bad things but this is too far!
Worse sins had greater discipline.

why do we tend to think sin is all the same..

We misinterpret some passages of scriptures.

Notice the size difference... speck and log-

Then the women caught in adultery.

Jesus wasn't saying all your sin is the same he was saying you're all condemned!! You all need the same thing shes needs!! You all need forgiveness of sins no mater how big or small, you're no different than her.

When the bible compares sin it's not because sin is all the same, it's because Jesus was rebuking the self righteous spirit attached to comparison!!!!!!!

He was rebuking the self righteousness that comes with comparing sin struggles.

A couple takeaways:
1.Don't be the person who compares their sin to others and makes themselves feel better about themselves.

2.We are not to approach or treat sins all the same in our lives. We should understand the severity of different types of sins and live to be holy and pure before God.

Heres the good news, no matter how severe the sin or how much, there's forgiveness for ALL sin!!! Come to Jesus today he LOVES YOU!!!!
