Sermon Tiltle: Devoted to Prayer

I believe the Lord is calling this house, this group of people, to be a people devoted to prayer.

Being devoted means wholeheartedly, not half-hearted. It means to continually and steadfastly pray without ceasing.

We need more than a prayer list, we need a prayer life!

Prayer precedes revival.

D.L. Moody said “Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure.”

What is prayer?
Simply, prayer is a spiritual connection and communication to our heavenly father. It is the way we talk to God and he answers!

God has a lot to say about the importance and practice of prayer!!

What do we need to know about to prayer to help us start to be devoted to it?

Gods desire to answer our prayers. He longs to answer the prayers of his children!!

Therefore, when Jesus teaches the disciples to pray, he stresses the Father’s desire, willingness, and even urgency to hear and respond!

Lets pray like he's going to respond!!!

Three things that hinder our prayer life.

1.Disappointment from unanswered prayers.

Undesired answers can kill a prayer life.

It seems even John the Baptist had some doubts when things weren't going his way.

We can't pray according to our past experiences we must pray in faith according to Gods word and desire!

2.Self sufficiency will hinder your prayer life.

The attitude that "I'm good". I don't really need it.

Listen friend, whether you realize it or not you are always in desperate need of God's help to walk out this christian life effectively, don't let the LIE of self sufficiency rob your time with God.

You need time with God more than you realize.

3.Another hindrance is simply being too busy and not setting prayer as a priority.

Let's look to Jesus.
You would think if anyone was “ good” it was Jesus.
But prayer isn't about just going to go for things or to confess sin its spending time with God and giving him our devotion

In Mark chapter one we have the busiest day in Jesus's Life.
A day of nonstop ministry to the broken and needy.

Jesus was devoted to prayer-

We can assume the disciples noticed that the place of prayer is what kept Jesus going. The place of Prayer and communion with his Father fueled his ministry. Let that be the same for me and you.

Gods calling this house to be a devoted house! A house devoted to teaching and instruction, fellowship, communion and prayer.
