Children of God
“Because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ‘Abba, Father.’” —Galatians 4:6, NLT
As the eldest daughter and firstborn of three sisters, I naturally became an overachiever—always striving to give more and seek the best results. This can be a great quality when used well, but it becomes exhausting when it defines one’s identity.
After years of conversations with God through prayer, I realized something: often we strive so much because we’re searching for love and acceptance. We try to prove our worth and earn a love that’s already been given to us.
Galatians 4:4–7 reminds us of a beautiful truth: we don’t have to earn God’s love. In verse 6, the apostle Paul says of believers in Jesus, “Because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ‘Abba, Father’” (NLT). We’ve been adopted into God’s family, not by our efforts, but because He chose us. Adoption is intentional. God saw you, knew you, and still said, “You are mine.”
Maybe you’ve been carrying an unnecessary burden, feeling like you’re not enough or that you must do more to deserve His love. But children don’t work to earn a place in the family—they simply belong. And you belong. You are loved, accepted, and held in His grace.
The God of generations is choosing you. The same God who called Abraham, Moses, and David has called you to be part of His family.

What burdens are you carrying right now? How can you rest in the truth that you already belong to God?
Abba, Father, thank You for adopting me into Your family. Please help me remember that I don’t have to strive to earn Your love. Amen.
