The Heart Work

DAY 2 OF 6

Day 2 — What Is the Heart?

In Matthew 13, Jesus reveals that the heart is like soil - it’s the inner ground where the Word of God is planted. Every person hears the truth, but not every person allows the word in their heart to bear fruit. This often occurs because the condition of the soil determines the outcome of the seed. A heart that is hard, shallow, or crowded cannot sustain Kingdom growth. Only a heart that has been softened, tended, and made ready can receive the Word and produce lasting transformation.

When Jesus spoke this parable, He wasn’t just teaching about farming; He was exposing how the inner life works. The heart is the meeting place of your spirit, soul, and body — the center where belief takes root. It’s where understanding happens, not just intellectually but spiritually. When the heart is calloused, truth can be heard but never absorbed. When it’s shallow, enthusiasm fades under pressure. And when it’s tangled with distractions - fear, worry, or greed - the seed suffocates before it matures. The fruit of your life always mirrors the health of your heart.

That’s why God is deeply concerned with the condition of your heart. He knows that if He can reach your heart, everything else will align. The Holy Spirit is a gardener, constantly working to break up hard ground, pull out weeds, and nourish the soil so that the seed of the Word can grow deep roots. His goal isn’t just that you hear the Word, but that you understand it - meaning it becomes part of you, shaping your responses, desires, and atmosphere.

So, what is the heart? It’s the spiritual soil of your life, the realm that determines whether Heaven’s truth can flourish in you. A guarded, soft, and surrendered heart will always bear fruit - thirty, sixty, even a hundredfold - because it has made room for the life of God to expand within it. Your role is to keep the soil ready: remove the thorns of distraction, deepen your roots through consistency, and let the Word take full possession of your inner ground.

When I first gave my life to Jesus, I knew I was forgiven… but my heart didn’t fully feel it yet. I still held onto old hurts. I still replayed offense. I said I forgave people, but deep down, I hadn't.

I was saved, but parts of my heart were still guarded and bitter. I accepted God's grace, but didn’t extend it. I received His forgiveness, but didn’t really let it transform me.

One day I prayed, “God, why don’t I feel the freedom everyone talks about?” And He gently showed me—I hadn’t let Him touch the places I was protecting.

That’s when I learned:

The more cultivated your heart becomes, the more clearly Heaven is experienced by you and through you.

Forgiveness didn’t just set others free, it unlocked my own heart to truly experience His love. When I finally surrendered the bitterness and let Him heal me, Heaven didn’t just become my future… it started showing up in my everyday life.

I didn’t just know His forgiveness anymore.

I could finally feel it.
