I don’t know why, Lord, but sometimes you don’t answer when I call. Sometimes I come to you for healing and leave with the same affliction. Sometimes I simply cry out to you in my pain, and you seem far away. I wait for a tender word from you, but none comes. I don’t understand it, and if I’m being completely honest, it grieves me. Yet as I read the Scriptures, I see you’ve made me no promise to explain yourself; you’ve given me no assurance that I will ever comprehend your ways. How could I? You are God, and I am not.

Help me, Father, to trust you in the mystery. I know there are people who turn from you when you don’t respond how they want or expect you to. But Lord, you don’t owe me anything. Teach me to trust in your timing. Give me grace for doubts in the darkness, that I might rest in your goodness, lean on your Word, and keep on knocking on heaven’s door.

Remind yourself of God’s sovereignty and faithfulness even in seasons of silence and unanswered prayers. Ask the Spirit to strengthen you when your flesh tempts you to grumble or despair. Trust in God’s good heart.
