HebrewsSample

The exhortations of the writer of Hebrews grow ever more urgent. He repeatedly urges his readers: Don’t throw away what you have! Again and again, he points to the reward. Stick with it—it’s worth it! Remember how it was when you first chose Jesus. Return to that first love!
This passage, like others in Hebrews, can be unsettling. Questions like, “Am I really still on the right path?” or “Can I lose my salvation?” may arise. But the writer doesn’t aim to unsettle his readers; he wants to encourage them. His goal is for them to seek the “author and perfecter” of their faith in all challenges. For the righteous will live by faith alone—not by their own effort. Stay close to Jesus, he calls out to them—because it’s worth it!
Something to think about
- What discourages you in your faith?
- What encourages you?
- Bring both to Jesus!
- How do you imagine heaven?
