30 Days of Praying for Children and FamiliesSample

The Book of Nehemiah tells how Nehemiah, an official in the Persian king's court, returns to Jerusalem to rebuild its ruined walls and restore the community. In chapter 1, we see his concern, fasting and prayer, in chapter 2, his boldness before Artaxerxes, and then we get chapter 3. A long list of names and wall sections being rebuilt.
It’s not often read aloud in churches. But isn't it wonderful?
“Uzziel son of Harhaiah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the next section; and Hananiah, one of the perfume-makers, made repairs next to that. They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.” – Nehemiah 3:8, NIV.
Each name was recorded for their efforts and contributions to the huge wall building project.
There might be seasons in your life when you’ve wondered if your small contribution really mattered. Especially when exhausted by the work already done or overwhelmed by what lies ahead.
Uzziel, Hananiah, and others may have felt the same as they laboured. But we can trust that every effort, prayer, and gift is seen by God. He is El Roi, the God who sees.
When facing opposition, Nehemiah prayed, “But now, O God, strengthen my hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9, NIV). May God guide, strengthen, and equip you for every good work.
There are probably days when you're doing the small tasks required to support your family and wondering whether they're really all that important - whether it's putting the washing on, doing some hoovering, taking the bins out. Whatever it is, God sees, and though your family may not always recognise it or appreciate the efforts, they do make a difference.
Prayer
Take a moment when washing your hands to pray, “Lord, strengthen my hands.” Let this simple act become a sacred pause, a reminder that your work, however ordinary, is holy when offered to God.
Praise God as El Roi, the God who sees. Pray for foster carers, adoptive parents, and birth parents who feel weary or overlooked would be reminded that God notices and honours every faithful effort.
