Three Years in 30 Days: Jesus' Life and MissionSample

The secrets of the kingdom of heaven
“Then the disciples came and said to Him [Jesus], ‘Why do You speak to them in parables?’” (Matthew 13:10 ESV)
One day Jesus sat beside the sea. A large crowd gathered around Him, so He got into a boat and sat down. From there He addressed the people standing on the shore. He told them the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9).
When Jesus had finished telling the story, the disciples asked Him why He spoke to them in parables instead of telling them directly what He meant.
He replied that it was intended that they should understand the secrets of the kingdom of God, but Jesus' adversaries should not.
Jesus' answer makes it clear that there is a separation between those who believe in Him and those who do not. Through the parables, Jesus' followers gain even more knowledge of the Kingdom of Heaven. But for those who do not believe, Jesus' parables will not leave a lasting impression.
