Three Years in 30 Days: Jesus' Life and MissionSample

The kingdom becomes visible
“The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed.” (Luke 17:20 ESV)
Even after Jesus had told the parables, questions continued to arise, both among Jesus' followers and among the Pharisees. Although Jesus gave them a different perspective on the kingdom of God in His parables, the idea of an earthly kingdom continued to dominate their thoughts. A kingdom in which they would be freed from Roman rule. A Messiah who would seize power and reign as king in a land free from lawlessness.
But Jesus emphasizes: the kingdom of God does not come in such a way that you can see it. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, people's hearts are renewed and thus the kingdom of God will take shape.
The gospel of Jesus Christ will spread throughout the earth until the day of His return on the clouds. Then the kingdom of God will become visible in all its glory.
- What is your image of the kingdom of God?
- Have the parables helped to shape your image?
