30 Day Battle-Ready Challenge - Leadership for Christian MenSample

Day 14: Sharpen Your Sword
Reflection: I enjoy going to the range from time to time. It’s a great way to blow off steam, and there’s something satisfying about having a weapon dialed in. But when my friend—who’s former military—shows up, I immediately notice the difference between someone who simply enjoys shooting and someone who is passionate about it.
He comes prepared with accessories, suppressors, and an in-depth knowledge of every detail of his gear. Watching him operate leaves me in awe every time.
Here’s the thing: I may never match his passion for the range, but the area where I want that same level of intensity is in knowing and applying the Word of God. Paul describes the Word as our primary offensive weapon in spiritual warfare. Yet, the hard truth is that many men today are walking into battle with swords that look more like pocketknives.
I’m not pointing fingers—I was there for a long time myself. But if we’re going to fight and win, we must sharpen our swords.
One of the enemy’s biggest victories has been convincing us that easy access to Scripture is enough. With technology, it’s tempting to rely on Google instead of hiding God’s Word in our hearts. Don’t get me wrong—tools and apps are great—but nothing beats having Scripture ingrained in your mind and soul.
When the attack comes in the middle of the night, you won’t have time to search your phone. The more “It is written” responses you have stored in your arsenal, the stronger your defense and offense will be.
This cannot remain a blind spot. It’s time to sharpen your sword.
Mission: Commit to memorizing one verse each week to strengthen your spiritual weapon. There will be obstacles—push through them. Stay committed. Stay in the fight.
Field Order: Start with 10 foundational verses. Lock them in. Use them often. Then, add more as the Spirit leads you.
Ok Warrior, it’s Gear Check time:
- What’s one area I need courage today?
- Who needs my encouragement right now?
- What truth has God shown me this week?
- Where am I tempted to check out?
Mission: Journal your answers. Pray through them. Choose one next step.
Field Order: Reset. Reload. Re-engage.
