“Don’t Be Afraid—Only Believe”
In Luke 8, Jairus, a synagogue leader, comes to Jesus with a desperate plea—his daughter is near death. When Jesus tells Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe,” He speaks directly into a moment heavy with fear and uncertainty. Fear is a natural human response to life’s crises. We worry about the worst, feel powerless, and sometimes doubt. But Jesus offers a different way, a faith that overrides fear.
Jesus doesn’t deny the reality of Jairus’ situation. Instead, He points Jairus – and us – toward total trust in Him. Belief in Jesus’ power and love becomes a lifeline when everything seems hopeless. This verse reminds us that faith is a choice, a conscious decision to focus on God’s promises rather than our fears.
The story continues with Jesus raising Jairus’ daughter from the dead, showing a powerful demonstration that nothing is impossible with God! This same power is at work in our lives today, ready to bring healing, restoration, and hope.
What are the “death-like” situations in your life where fear threatens to take hold? Jesus invites you to hear His words: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Questions for Reflection:
- What fears are you carrying right now?
- How can you intentionally choose faith over fear today?
- In what ways have you seen God work powerfully when you believed?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, fear often overwhelms me when I face difficult circumstances. Help me to hear Your words clearly: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Strengthen my faith to trust You fully, even when the situation seems impossible. Thank You for Your power to heal and restore. In Your name, Amen.
