Opening the Bible With Someone
People don't need to believe to read the Bible with you. The Bible is the most significant and widely read piece of literature in history. It has shaped the culture of numerous civilisations. It is a literary masterpiece and a historical marvel. It is also breathed out by God and has power to cut us to the heart, to convict us of our wrong actions or thoughts, or to inspire us to worship. When we read the Bible, we hear the voice of God. When we read the Bible, Jesus is displayed to us through sacred words. We can encounter Jesus as we read, align our minds with his, and be transformed.
The Ethiopian Eunuch didn't yet believe, but he was curious enough to read. What he read changed his life. We often read books quietly on our own, but reading together helps us to interpret better. We can help each other catch things that we would otherwise miss. We can ask each other questions and grow in our knowledge together.
The Bible is one of God's gifts to us, and we have the opportunity of giving others the gift of a Bible, or the opportunity to read it and understand it. As we open the Bible with others, Jesus will be revealed to us by words that were breathed by God for our good.
Action
If people seem receptive or curious in your conversations about Jesus, ask them if they'd like to read the Bible with you. Maybe they'd like to bring some friends to join in too.
Prayer
Pray that Jesus would be seen and heard as people read the Bible.
Pray for Bibles to be provided for churches that are persecuted or too poor to buy them.
Pray for those who are working on translating and distributing the Bible into new languages and regions.

About this Plan

You wouldn’t force a whole packet of biscuits in someone’s mouth; you would offer them one biscuit at a time. We would like to think the same principle applies when it comes to sharing your faith. This twelve day reading plan (inspired by The Biscuit Trail resource) will help you think through easy steps you can take to help others discover Jesus for the first time.
