Let’s be honest—sometimes verses start to sound like Christian babble. We hear the words, but we don’t really hear them.

But, the words here in this verse aren’t just religious buzzwords. They’re deeply meaningful terms in the original Hebrew language, each holding a world of beauty and spiritual depth.

Righteousness (Tzedaqah) is about living in right relationship—with God and with others. It’s not just about personal morality, but justice, equity, and lifting up the vulnerable. It reflects a heart aligned with God’s.

Loyal love (Chesed) is one of the primary ways God describes Himself throughout Scripture. It’s more than just kindness or faithfulness—it’s both and much more: mercy, devotion, pursuit, compassion, and steady, sacrificial care. Picture the elderly man who stays by his wife’s side as her health declines—changing her clothes, holding her hand, speaking gently over her in prayer. That’s chesed.

Honor/Glory (Kavod) speaks of weight—of substance. It’s God’s overwhelming presence, His invisible majesty revealed through creation, and the dignity He shares with His image-bearers.

When Proverbs 21:21 (ESV) says, “One who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness, and honor,” it’s showing us something profound. Those who long for what matters to God—rightness, love, and faithfulness—are met with abundant life, renewed relationships, and the dignity that only God can give.

It’s a bit like a sunflower. It doesn’t strain to produce growth—it simply turns towards the sun. In turning, the flower grows, flourishes, and reflects the very thing it receives. It’s not about us earning anything, but rather aligning our position towards God. And when you pursue God’s heart… He delights to give you more of Himself in return.
