HUSBANDS AND FATHERS: GOOD FATHERS LEAD When guys' conversations these days turn to gender roles, the dominant mood is confusion. We don't know who we're supposed to be anymore. It appears that nobody either expects or wants us to be Ward Cleaver. Now what? Do we still pick up the check? Are we still supposed to hold doors and always volunteer for the dirty and dangerous jobs? Well, guess what? Healthy homes still do best when the man leads. When the man in a family is weak or absent, everybody suffers. True godly leadership is not about power or using others. Godly leadership is about going first in serving others. God calls his men not to be controllers or bosses, but heads. See the difference? Ephesians 5:23 says, "The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior." Heads who are like Christ accept responsibility. Heads who are like Christ take care of the other members of the body. Heads are wired to the nerve endings that send pain messages from all over, and so when the body hurts, the head says, "Ow!" Kids, moms, you know the truth--life at home is awesome when Dad acts like Jesus.
