Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 110 OF 365

His Prescription, His Provision All of us are painfully aware of the fact that we're sinners. It's an inescapable and undeniable reality that David dwells on as he opens the Psalm 51. His prose is laced with the sad understanding that he, like all of us, has been corrupted through and through with the stain of sin. But David finds another gear. He turns from his corrupted condition to God's cleansing, covering, and creation. Notice how David recognizes that it was God who created a clean heart in him...not himself. That's key to our Christianity, because God is the One who undertakes the task of making us into the very vessels He desires us to be. Unfortunately, we lose sight of this. We start out like David did, reflecting on our sin and lamenting our flawed nature. But we don't find that next gear, and we fail to understand that we're not bound to stay in that sin cycle. But God is not only able but also willing to intervene and do what we never could do...create in us a clean heart. Don't misunderstand: This doesn't mean we'll be absolutely free from sin. We won't win the war against sin until we're with the Lord in Heaven. But it does mean that more and more of the battles against sin will fall in our favor. Not by our might or by our strength but because the battle belongs to the Lord. God not only calls us to a life of holiness but also produces this holiness in us. May we never forget that His prescription for our lives is also His provision in our lives. Create in us a clean heart, O God. Do what only You can do in us and keep us mindful of the fact that Your prescription is also Your provision. God is the One who undertakes the task of making us into the very vessels He desires us to be. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
