Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 111 OF 365

Your Reaction Says a Lot There are two possible reactions that can take place in our hearts when we see God's judgment in another's life. We can celebrate it: "Ha...it's about time! He really had it coming!" Or, we can be sobered by it: "Wow...my heart can't help but break for her as she goes through this period of discipline. I pray I never find myself in that position." Each reaction says a lot about us. If we celebrate, it shows a lack of spiritual maturity. If it sobers us, it's an indication we're growing in godliness because we understand God's judgment isn't something to make light of. In Psalm 52, we see this principle portrayed for us as David describes how God will judge and destroy those who live in rebellion to Him. Note well the reaction of the righteous. It says they "shall see and fear." The original word here for "fear" doesn't convey a sense of insecurity, but rather it represents a holy respect. When we're right with God, we have a holy respect for His judgment. We have a sober attitude towards it. We don't relish or revel in anyone going through it. We understand that it breaks God's heart to judge; He gets no pleasure in punishing people, and neither should we. Our reaction to God's judgment in the lives of others says a lot about us. It shows how aligned or unaligned we are with His heart. May we never forget this, and may we seek His help in reacting righteously. Righteous Judge, fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we can have Your heart in all things, especially when it comes to Your judgment in the lives of others. Our reaction to God's judgment in the lives of others says a lot about us. It shows how aligned or unaligned we are with His heart. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
