Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 113 OF 365

Just for Who He is There's an important insight to be gained from David's declaration of praise in this Psalm. He tells us he had determined to "freely sacrifice" to the Lord. In other words, his sacrifice to God, which is really a representation of his worship in general, was unconditional, willful, and without any strings attached. Such "freeness" has to be the basis for our worship. When we worship God, it can't be conditional. If it is conditional, then it's no longer real worship. But what we must realize is that our ability to worship God unconditionally is founded on who God is...and not on what God does. That's a significant difference because from our perspective, God's actions don't always seem praiseworthy. He takes something away from us. He disciplines us and it hurts. He fails to meet our expectations. These situations don't naturally move us to a place of praise and worship. But again, it's not what He does that we base our worship on. It's who He is...His nature and His name. God is good, and we worship Him for it. God is holy, and we worship Him for it. God is mighty, and we worship Him for it. God is perfect, and we worship Him for it. God is love, and we worship Him for it. We may not always directly experience these aspects of God's nature in our lives. But this doesn't change the fact that this is who He is, and therefore He is worthy of our worship. May our worship always be based on who You are, Wondrous God, and not on what You do. We must realize is that our ability to worship God unconditionally is founded on who God is...and not on what God does Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
