DAY 9 OF 365

One state issued a formal pardon for a woman executed 60 years ago. The state said her execution was a grievous error, and they should have shown her mercy. How do you undo an error like that? People put that question to Peter on the Day of Pentecost. He had just ended a powerful sermon. In it, he argued that both Jews and Gentiles had made a grievous error in crucifying the Messiah. To make his point, he cited the wonderful miracles Jesus did. He argued that God endorsed and empowered Jesus to perform these signs and wonders. He then said even though the people nailed Him to the cross, God raised Him from the dead. Peter then quoted King David, their revered hero, who predicted that the Messiah would rise from the dead. Peter said Jesus is not only alive; He sits on the throne of highest honor in heaven. With this evidence, Peter said it should be clear to everyone that God has made Jesus both Lord and Messiah. How could they deny it? Peter's words brought such conviction that the people cried out, "Brothers, what should we do?" Peter said, "Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins." Yes, the entire human race stands guilty for the death of Jesus. Yet God offers to forgive us for this grievous error when we repent of our sins and submit to Him.
