DAY 12 OF 365

Book introductions give readers a "heads up" of what to expect in the book. Like modern authors, the Apostle John includes a powerful introduction to his Gospel. He writes to introduce Jesus Christ as the Son of God. He wants people to believe in Jesus so they can obtain eternal life through believing. John says in his introduction that Jesus did not begin when Mary gave birth to Him. No, he says Jesus is the logos—He is God's Word that existed in the beginning. He was with God and was, in fact, God. John says Jesus created everything that exists including life itself. The apostle tells us about John the Baptist, the credible messenger God sent to introduce His Son to the world. God sent him to inform us that Jesus is God's light for the world. Jesus came to reveal critical truth to us about God, and to give His life as a ransom for our sins. Sadly, John says, when Jesus came into His own world, His own country, and His own people, His own did not recognize Him. But every person who believes and accepts Him receives eternal life. John's testimony about Jesus Christ is clear, strong, and credible. He insists himself that what he says about Jesus is not hearsay. He says, "We ourselves have seen his glory, the glory as of the only Son of God." John invites everyone to believe as he does, and all who do receive eternal life through Jesus' name.
