DAY 3 OF 365

Cherokee Indians heard the Gospel from John Marrant, an African American born in 1755. He came to Christ himself one night on his way to a dance. A friend dared him to barge into a church and disrupt the service by blowing his French horn. He barged in, where he heard a message from George Whitfield so powerful that he accepted Christ. At age 14, Marrant left home and got lost. A Cherokee Indian found him wandering in a wilderness and rescued him. He stayed with Native Americans for two years and led many of them to the Lord. God sometimes chooses people in unusual ways to bring Good News to others. He chose the Apostle Paul to take the Gospel to the Gentiles. As Paul traveled from city to city, he felt the urge to speak to the Jews first. But when they rejected the message, he turned to the Gentiles. We read in Acts 13 about one visit to Asia Minor. After he preached, the Jewish leaders slandered everything Paul said. Here is how he responded: “It was necessary that this Good News from God be given first to you Jews. But since you rejected it and judged yourselves to be unworthy of eternal life—well, we will offer it to the Gentiles.” He quoted Isaiah 49:6 to support his position that God wanted Gentiles to hear the Gospel. Just as God used Paul to win Gentiles and John Marrant to win Cherokee Indians, we should not be surprised at God’s unique ways of using us.
