Art And Scripture

DAY 4 OF 9

“Declaration” [Illustrations included in this devotional are not visible in this view. Illustrations are only supported in the Bible App for iOS, Android, and at Bible.com] Notes From Jessica Jones About the Painting: In this devotion series we combine Art with Bible reading. We would encourage you as the reader to mediate on the art as you do the verses. Art has a way of stirring up questions, depth of meaning, and interpretative elements about Biblical texts that often go overlooked. In our culture, we are so overwhelmed by images each and everyday. We’ve lost the ability to understand the gift God gives us through the artist. Artists can make “visible the invisible,” and help us tangibly contemplate Faith (the evidence of things unseen). Use the artist’s notes below to help you interpret the passage as well as the painting. We pray this study helps you grow in your maturity as a disciple of Christ, but also in your ability to enjoy, revel in, and feast your senses on all of God’s creation—His artwork! 1\. The background of various Blues gives a space and heaven-like atmosphere. 2\. The White spots represent stars and purity of God. 3\. The designs coming from “stars” stand for the speech that pours from the heavens; going out into the world. 4\. Circles of Orange rolling over the top of painting portray the sun running its course—rising and completing its circuit. 5\. The Purple shows royalty. God is the Sovereign King. 6\. The Yellow is reminiscent of both gold and honey. The Word of God is more precious than gold and sweeter than honey. 7\. The Yellow traveling into an eye ball portrays how God’s word is also “radiant, giving light to the eyes.”
