Mysterious

Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night with honest questions. As one of Israel’s teachers, he’s used to explaining things, not being confused by them. But as Jesus speaks about being “born again” and about the Spirit like the wind, Nicodemus falls silent. The mystery is too great to fit inside reason.

Jesus’ words remind us that faith isn’t about mastering information. It’s about meeting the living God. Mysteries aren’t problems to solve; they’re invitations to trust.

Later, in John 9, the disciples face their own confusion when they see a man born blind. They try to reason it out: “Who sinned, this man or his parents?” Their question assumes a cause that makes sense to them. But Jesus redirects their logic: “Neither this man nor his parents sinned… this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

In other words, not everything painful or confusing has a neat explanation. Some situations exist not to be solved, but to reveal God’s goodness in unexpected ways.

That truth can reshape how we face uncertainty. Like Nicodemus, we may not understand everything Jesus says or does. But we can stay near Him, keep listening, and trust that even what we can’t explain can still bring glory to God.

Micah 6:8 offers the simplest guidance for walking through mystery: “Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.” When we don’t know the answers, we can still choose humility, obedience, and love.

Every circumstance holds the potential to make God visible. Every mystery can become a place where His light shines through.

Prayer

Lord, what You do is often far beyond my thinking. You are God, and I am only human. Help me to give You glory and make You great in every situation. Help me to live with the mystery. Help me Lord, to walk humbly with You as I practice love and do justice. Amen.
