Invitations (S1-E7)Sample

You Are Welcome!
When Jesus calls Matthew, the tax collector, everyone around Him is shocked. Peter doesn’t hold back: Do You know who he is, what he’s done?
Jesus answers gently, “You didn’t understand either when I chose you.”
Peter protests, “But Master, this is different!”
And Jesus replies, “Get used to different.”
Those words capture the heart of Jesus’ mission. He chooses people others overlook. He sees value where others see failure. His invitation isn’t based on reputation or worthiness. It’s based on love.
Mary understands this better than anyone. Once possessed and rejected, she knows what it means to be seen and restored. So when Matthew is welcomed, she celebrates.
This same truth shines in today’s Scripture. Zacchaeus, the tax collector everyone despised, climbs a tree just to see Jesus. And what does Jesus do? He stops, looks up, and calls his name: “Zacchaeus, come down. I must stay at your house today.”
Maybe you’ve wondered if you’re truly welcome with your flaws, your failures, or your past choices. The answer is yes. Jesus sees you, knows you completely, and still says, “You are welcome with Me.”
And just as Jesus welcomes you, He calls you to do the same for others: to open your heart, your table, your life to those who need to know they belong.
Reflection Questions
- How does it feel to know Jesus welcomes you completely?
- “Get used to different.” What does that mean for how you see others?
- How can you show Jesus’ welcome to someone who feels left out?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for seeing me and calling me to belong. Teach me to see others with Your eyes and to make space for those You love. Help me to live the welcome of Your kingdom every day. Amen.
