She Reads Truth: Galatians

DAY 5 OF 15

FAITH OR WORKS Paul has a point to get across and it's possible that he's feeling a little blue-in-the-face about it. How do I know? Because in the first six verses of chapter 3, has asks no less than six questions - most of them rhetorical. He wants the Galatians to think! To reason. To consider the God that they knew and how He saved them from the get-go. He wants to know what makes them think any of this has changed "Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh [human effort]?" Of course not! What are they thinking? What are WE thinking? How often do we justify our own faith by our works - by our words and actions? Paul is telling the Gentiles that they don't want to play that game because it's a game they will lose: you want to be justified by the law? go ahead and try! Because for every good action that justifies you, you've got two actions that curse you. The good news: the game is over. Christ took the curse! For everyone before Him and for everyone after Him (yep, that's you and me!). We don't have to play the game of the law anymore - and this means we can't rely on works of the law to set us free. Instead, we are simply called to believe and have faith in Christ's finished work on the cross.
