Fearless in His Love In the Gospel of John, the term ‘the disciple whom Jesus loved’ is used six times. John uses these words repeatedly, showing us that he understood the fact that God loved him so much. John, however, did not know that Jesus wassoon going to pay the costliest ransom, with His own life, to demonstrate that love openly to him. It was John’s personal revelation, of how much God loved him and not a boasting statement to show any favoritism, because Jesus died for the whole world. There is no fear in love; Perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment (1 John 4:18a). Love is a key to freedom. Love can hurt or heal. Love comes and goes in one’s lifetime. But when we understand Jesus’ agape (unconditional) love for us, and that nothing can separate us from His love, it brings total freedom. This same love calmed our troubled hearts and gave us total freedom from any kind of fear, when our daughter went through surgery on her spine (one of three corrective surgeries). We trusted God, but when we saw her in tremendous pain, we felt the heart-piercing pain too. We couldn’t see her suffer. She was in the Intensive Care Unit, alone, and no amount of morphine was taking away her pain. How could we comfort her? That’s when God whispered in my ears and said that it is He, not us, who would give her the strength to overcome the pain. It was His love balanced with compassion, acceptance and understanding, that healed my daughter completely. Today, beloved, there is only one thing that will help us sustain all kinds of trials, fears and pains and that is the knowledge of His love for us. Declaration I am the one God loves, and He gave Himself for me. Nothing can separate me from His love. His love gives me power to endure and overcome.
