Precious Moments That Count For Eternity

DAY 88 OF 366

Your Words Matter Have you heard the phrase ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me’? How true is this? Think of the number of children and employees whose parents and bosses have called them ‘fool’, ‘useless’, ‘no good’, just to name a few of these condescending words. And these victims have grown up feeling they can never be the best, always looking at others being better than them. Did you know that God created the world using words? “Let there be light” and there was light! Jesus is called ‘The Word’. In Proverbs 18:21, it is written, Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, saying, “Lazarus, come forth!” Some years ago my wife and I, then newly married, moved into our own God-given apartment with hardly any furniture. One day, I happened to be talking to my mother-in-law. “Mum, all we need in our living room is two divans (sofas, which can be used to sleep on as well) and we will be fine.” A few days later, we met a wonderful couple who wanted some of their furniture to get into the hands of the right people and we ended up getting what we wanted and all for free. Be careful of the words you use and what names you call your children. Say “I love you, you’re the best, my clever son/daughter” and watch them get a better self-image of themselves and become champions in life. Prayer “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3).
