Love Extravagantly Jesus knew how to genuinely accept and love people. He was not afraid to spend time with the poor and the needy, with those who were sick and the untouchables. He made the uncomfortable feel comfortable. He made the rejected feel welcomed. He accepted everybody who came His way. God shows His love to everyone, no matter who they are or how they live their lives. He knows your past but still loves you. Similarly, we need to look at others the way Jesus looks at them. Jesus accepted the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4). When everyone around considered the woman to be an outcast and rejected her, Jesus did the opposite. Even before He asked her for a drink of water, He knew everything about this woman’s life, including her dark side. How many of us would accept and love people, especially if we knew everything about them? How many people would accept us if they knew everything about us? The Bible says, Accept one another, then, just as Christ has accepted you, in order to bring praise to God (Romans 15:7 NIV). Jesus gives us the perfect example of loving and accepting others unconditionally. You cannot feel loved if you don’t feel accepted. His love is not cautious, but is extravagant. We are loved perfectly, unconditionally and extravagantly and His love can never be taken away from us. Today’s verse asks us to keep company with Him, which means to spend time with Him, to read and meditate on His Word and ultimately to live a life of love. Let us not love to get something in return. Jesus did not do that. Instead, He gave everything of Himself completely to us. Accept the way Jesus accepted. Love the way Jesus loved – extravagantly! Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional love for me. Thank You for accepting me for who I really am. Help me today to learn and love others the same way You have loved me. Amen.
