Rest, Don’t Strive! What does God mean by ‘rest’? It is something you do without much effort. Something you enjoy doing and are at peace doing, and you get paid for it. In the process, you find favor with important people who are a big help to you, and enjoy life to its fullest. This is God’s will for us. Rest for His children. He says, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26) Fear is never of God. Yet the only time God asks us to fear is when we do not operate in rest. Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it (Hebrews 4:1). When you rest, it shows that you trust God to look after you. Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God.” In the year 1993, working as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, God spoke to me about my promotion as the crew bus pulled into our hotel in Mainz, Germany. That same day, I read in the Bible (Psalm 75:6,7) that promotion comes only from God. From then onwards, I flew most of the year in a supervisory position with a higher salary, as they were short staffed. The next year, I was officially promoted as a Customer Service Co-ordinator. There was no striving and no stress and no buttering up of officials involved. In rest, God had promoted me. Do you trust God to do His best for you? He is true to His Word. God keeps every one of His promises (1Kings 8:56b). Prayer Lord, You have promised in Your Word to prosper me and give me a good life. I trust You and Your Word for my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
