Precious Moments That Count For Eternity

DAY 104 OF 366

The Antidote to Depression King David wrote this Psalm when seeking refuge during Absalom’s rebellion (2 Samuel 15 to 18). He expresses his helplessness before God (Psalm 62:3,4). He says there is more than just one enemy who is seeking his life. His own son is planning to usurp his throne and so-called friends are clearly deceiving. Only two of the twelve verses in the psalm are about testing and trials. However, it is a beautiful expression of David’s trust in God’s saving power. He confesses, “He alone is my rock and salvation,” reminding himself, that if God can save his soul from going to hell, then what are these trials for Him? He chooses to quietly wait before the Lord, as he places his hope in the Almighty. Trusting in God changes our perspective to His. Our focus shifts from ourselves to Him, who is the Rock of our salvation. The chances of drowning in the ocean of our troubles disappear, as we look at the strength and power of our Lord. Suddenly, our heart is full of hope and expectancy. ‘Expectancy’ is a feeling that something exciting or pleasant is soon going to happen. It’s an inner confidence that through all that is happening, God, in His loving kindness and grace, will turn things around for our good, and something of eternal value (character) will be achieved in us (Romans 5:1-5). Today, make a decision to shift your eyes from your trials to His saving power. Let your hearts be full of expectancy, producing that faith and hope, which is the antidote to your depression! Declaration I will trust in the Lord always, for in the Lord is everlasting strength. He will keep me in perfect peace as my mind stays on Him.
