Precious Moments That Count For Eternity

DAY 103 OF 366

Just Do It! Mother was busy ironing her sari. One-year-old Willy was tempted to touch the shining iron. She explained that the iron is hot, and he shouldn’t touch it. When the water tank started to overflow, mother rushed to the washroom to shut the tap. Not wanting to miss this golden opportunity, Willy toddled to the iron-box hurriedly, touched it, and yelled in pain. His own disobedience had caused him that pain. It’s human tendency to do what one is told not to. A smoker reads on the wrapper, ‘Smoking is injurious to health.’ Yet he finds pleasure in smoking. A diabetic person is strictly forbidden to eat sweets, yet he eats them. The act of disobedience began with the first humans on earth. God created Adam and Eve in His image and gave them the best. Only one command was given – ‘Don’t eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.’ Alas! They disobeyed. By disobeying, they shut the doors to the best blessings and opened the doors to the worst curses. We need to obey all authority, big or small. Whatever the Word of God says, just do it. Three things prevent us from obeying God: the ‘I know better’ attitude, laziness and temptation. God chose Saul as the first king of Israel. He mandated Saul to attack the Amalekites and destroy all that they had. But Saul brought back the best of the sheep and oxen. God was very displeased. He sent Prophet Samuel to question Saul’s action. Saul explained that his people spared the sheep and oxen to sacrifice them to the Lord. Samuel then said, “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” Because Saul rejected the Word of God, he was also rejected as king. Prayer Master, give me a humble heart to say, ‘Yes, Lord, I will do as You say.’ Obeying You will make me obey the ones over me too. Amen.
