Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 1 OF 63

TWO IDENTITIES 1\. A person who delights in the Lord. Do you delight in reading God’s word? Does it give you pleasure to read? Do you meditate, and think over what God has to say to you ? These are hard questions because often my life reflects something different. I delight in watching Netflix, texting my friends, posting a good Instagram picture. I delight in what people think of me and often meditate over that as I fall asleep and their comments through my head over and over. This all sounds a lot more like identity 2. 2\. A person who delights in the world. I desperately want to identify with that first identity, a person who delights in the Lord. My actions, however, don’t show it. Why do I want this first identity? Because “that person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruits in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers”. God’s word gives us the resilience of a tree with a source of living water that will never dry up. When I meditate on what people have to say about me, or my focus goes mindlessly scrolling on Instagram for hours, I become like the alternative, “like chaff that the wind blows away” (Chaff is the light seed that is blown away when making bread). When my identity is in this world, I am weak. We see this as everything we have known as “normal” has been blown away by a virus, parents without work, money troubles, academic struggles, loneliness, boredom. God offers us a way out. Delight in Him. Questions What identity do you want to be? Which identity best describes you? Where do you want to be? Pray Talk to Jesus about this, ask for His forgiveness and for His help to get where you want to be.
