DAY 1 OF 41

## SERVING OTHER PEOPLE The last 24 hours of Jesus’ life begin with a meal, more precisely with the preparations for this meal. Jesus sends Peter and John ahead to Jerusalem to prepare the Passover meal for him and his disciples. This meant they had to organize, shop, offer a sacrifice in the temple, cook, prepare the room, set the table, and so on. In reality this was a job that was performed by maids and servants in those days. Maybe Peter and John were not aware of the importance of this last meal together with Jesus. However, what they must have been aware of is that this meant a lot of strenuous, unattractive work in the background. Why me again? Why can’t others do the work for once? Am I the only one who sees the work that must be done and who does not consider themselves too good for it? No matter how much you like to be there for others and serve others, such thoughts continue to go through your mind. Serving is not always easy, much less sexy. But I can tell you, you are comparing yourself with the wrong person! You had better compare yourself with Jesus and you will realize that you are on the right track when you are serving people. For the Son of Man did not come to be cared for. He came to care for others. He came to give His life so that many could be bought by His blood and be made free from sin. Mark 10:45 ## ACTION STEP: Do not underestimate the inconspicuous things. Look for an opportunity where you can render a small service to others today. Offer a coffee to a colleague at work, give up your seat on the bus, keep the door open for somebody, do something in the household… All the while think about this: big changes always begin with small steps of serving. ##### Maxime Morier, ICF Bulle ##
