DAY 5 OF 41

## RISKING DISAPPOINTMENTS When Jesus said this sentence, Peter’s bread most likely got stuck in his throat. Did you really just say that? The last three years Jesus had invested love and time in each of these men. Together they had lived through highs and lows. And now one of them would become a traitor? In Uganda, there is a proverb: “The person who denies you is nobody from a distance!” When it comes to betrayal, it is mostly performed by close friends or even family members. Because the requirement for betrayal is closeness and trust. A relationship without love and trust will never be possible and so there is always a risk of being betrayed and disappointed. Jesus was also conscious of this risk. But this did not hinder him from sharing his life with these men. Judas sits at the table and Jesus knows that he will sell him for a few coins. However, Jesus is merciful. He does not shy away from having fellowship with him. Just as Jesus took a risk with Judas, he also takes a risk with you every day. He does not shy away from the risk because he knows that you are worth it. So, Jesus wants to encourage you to also to take this risk in your relationships today. ## ACTION STEP Where are you ready to dare to love and trust anew today? Remember, the key to reconciliation in a relationship is mercy and not “tit for tat”. Talk about your hurts in the Small Group. Give your emotions a name like anger or even hatred. Bring these emotions to Jesus at the cross and have him exchange them for love and mercy. ##### René Wagner & David Holey, ICF Leipzig/Dresden
