Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

ڕۆژی8 لە 365

Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven (Matthew 7:21 NKJV).

How should you respond to an absurd request from God?

Abraham had seemingly waited forever to have his promised son, Isaac. Now the Lord commands Abraham to go and sacrifice his unique son, the son of promise. What does Abraham do? He acts quickly, and he acts obediently. The writer of Hebrews informs us that Abraham had such faith that he knew that if he had sacrificed his son that God would raise him from the dead (Genesis 22:5, Hebrews 11:17-19).

God honors Abraham’s faith because Abraham simply took God at his Word and acted upon it. God intervened and did not let Abraham sacrifice his son. God praises him for loving the Lord above everyone else, which is demonstrated by his obedience (Genesis 22:12).

Employment Point: Demonstrate supreme love for God through your obedience.

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
