Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:15 NKJV).

Have you considered the extent of God’s forgiveness to you?

Rabbis taught in Jesus’ day that you should forgive someone up to three times when they’ve sinned against you. Peter, being aware of this, came to Jesus and asks, “How often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” (Matthew 18:21 NKJV). Jesus’ response must have knocked the sandals right off Peter’s feet, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:22 NKJV).

Jesus’ parable then probes the depth of forgiveness we’ve received that should be granted to others. As our God graciously forgives us each and every time we confess our sin, we need to be consistent and forgive those that have trespassed against us. Having the right focus is the key to forgiving others.

Employment Point: Forgive others for their trespasses by contemplating the depth of Jesus’ forgiveness to you.

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
