Yes & Amen

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. –Isaiah 40:29–31 (ESV)

Think of a time when you had to wait for something. Maybe you were eagerly anticipating the gifts you’d receive for your birthday or Christmas. Maybe you were anxiously waiting for news about a difficult situation. Or perhaps it was something as simple as standing in a long line at the grocery store. In any season of waiting, we’re always faced with a choice: how will we respond?

Our response often reveals something deeper—the level of trust we have in the person or circumstance we’re waiting on. For example, when you’re waiting for a gift from a close friend or loved one, you’re more likely to wait patiently because you trust their heart and believe the gift will be thoughtful. In contrast, waiting on uncertain news—like a medical report—can stir up anxiety, especially if you fear the outcome may not be good.

In the same way, when we’re waiting on God, our posture in the waiting reveals what we believe about His character. Isaiah 40:29–31 reminds us of the promises He gives to those who wait on Him—power to the faint and strength to the weak. In 2 Corinthians 1:20, the apostle Paul affirms the reliability of His promises: “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ is spoken by us to the glory of God” (NIV).

We can hold onto hope because God is holy, trustworthy, and faithful. When He makes a promise, He keeps it. When we say “Amen,” we’re not just closing a prayer—we’re agreeing with His truth, aligning our hearts with His will, and choosing trust over fear.

If you’re in a waiting season right now, remind yourself that God sees you, is with you, and is working on your behalf, even when you can’t see it. Today, decide to trust Him in the waiting, to lean on His promises, and to rest in His faithfulness. Let your “Amen” be a declaration of confidence in His perfect timing!

Prayer: Father, I want to trust You in the waiting. You chose me before the beginning of time (see Ephesians 1:4), so I know I can trust You when I’m waiting. You are always working on my behalf because You love me and because You are good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
