Always Will Be

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. –Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)

One of the most consistent things in life is the certainty of change. No matter where we look, change is happening all around us. The seasons shift from summer to fall, then winter to spring. Political leaders are voted in and out of office. New neighborhoods and communities are built while others are torn down or transformed. Businesses open with excitement and close just as quickly. Relationships evolve, people move, technology advances, and plans we once felt sure about suddenly take unexpected turns. Change is a natural and inevitable part of life—and sometimes, it can feel overwhelming.

With so many things changing around us, it’s easy to feel a sense of uncertainty (or even anxiety). We may find ourselves wondering what’s coming next, what we can rely on, or how we’re supposed to navigate the unknown. In response, we often grasp for control—believing that if we can just manage the details, plan ahead, or force outcomes, we’ll feel safer. But this is often just an illusion of control. We might convince ourselves that we’re in charge, but the truth is, our efforts to control everything can leave us even more anxious and exhausted. Thankfully, the Bible offers us an unshakeable truth.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that in a world where everything seems to shift, we have the promise that Jesus never changes. He has been the same loving, present, and powerful God since the beginning of time; He remains that same God today; and He will be that same God forever. When life is unpredictable, when the future is uncertain, and when questions seem louder than answers, God’s character remains steady and unchanging. He is the God who never leaves us or turns His back on us (see Deuteronomy 31:8). He is the God who gives us peace and provides for our every need (see 2 Thessalonians 3:16; Philippians 4:19).

Jesus speaks of His provision and peace in Matthew 6:28–33, reminding us not to worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear. He points to the lilies of the field—how beautifully they are clothed without striving or stress—and assures us that if God cares so deeply for flowers, how much more does He care for us? When we seek Him first, He promises to take care of all the rest.

Because of these truths, we can confidently place our faith in Him and surrender our anxieties and fears. He has a proven track record of faithfulness—He has seen us through change and uncertainty before, and He will do it again.

Today, reflect on a time in your life when change or uncertainty felt overwhelming. Ask the Lord to remind you of His care and friendship. Ask the Lord to fill you with His love to build your confidence in His faithfulness. Pray for renewed trust in Him.

Prayer: Father, I want to trust You completely, but I know You must do the work of grace. Reveal Your love to me so I will trust You when chaos is all around me. Your “perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18 ESV). Thank You, God, that You are always with me and You care for me deeply. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
