Day 24 — The Importance of Being Teachable

Often, God uses the hardest seasons of our lives to reveal gifts and abilities we did not even know we had.

Have you ever faced a situation where you realized you had strength you never knew was in you—until you were forced to draw it out? Those moments when you couldn’t imagine having the endurance to lead your team during a challenging season of implementing new processes, or finding the comforting words to share with a loved one in pain, or the courage to make a decision that seemed impossible. These are only a few examples of trials we face that place us in a position where we have no choice but to do it, and through the process, we discover resources we never knew we had.

James 1:2–4 reminds us: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (NIV).

Scripture tells us clearly that trials are necessary for developing what we need in order for God’s work to be fully accomplished in us. This is the point: what is testing you today may be the very thing that “forces” you to activate a gift within you—a gift you will one day use for the advancement of His Kingdom and the fulfillment of your calling.

Do not despise the season that is shaping you. The pressure you are living under is being used by God to produce something new and strong within you!

If you are walking through a difficult season, pause today and reflect: What current challenges could God be using to birth something new in you? How can you shift your perspective to see hard seasons as a “teachable” moment – preparation for growth and new opportunities?

Prayer: Lord, help me not to run from trials but to face them with trust, recognizing that in those very circumstances You are forming something new in me. Give me the strength to embrace challenges as places of preparation, and the faith to believe that what is testing me today will one day serve Your purpose in powerful ways. Amen.
