Day 29 — See Yourself Through A Different Set of Eyes
His perspective changes everything.
In John 1:42 we read: “Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas’” (NIV). Cephas in Aramaic means “rock,” which becomes Peter (Greek translation). At that moment, Simon had not yet done anything extraordinary. He was an ordinary fisherman, and similar to ourselves, had good days and his bad days. Yet, Jesus looked him in the eye and called him by a new name.
In other words, Jesus was saying to Simon: “Even though you are still a fisherman, I see you as one of the apostles who will build My Church, because this is the purpose for which I created you.”
Jesus called Simon not for who he was in that moment, but for who he was designed to be. Peter would never have become the leader of the early Church unless he had first learned to see himself through Jesus’ eyes.
The same is true for us today. We need to learn to see ourselves through Christ’s eyes. He knows our flaws and weaknesses, but He still calls us worthy of the purpose for which we were created. When He looks at us, He doesn’t only see who we are today: where we see limits, He sees possibilities, and where we see only the ‘Simon,’ Jesus sees the ‘Peter’ we will become.
Take a moment to visualize yourself through the eyes of Jesus: what do you believe Jesus sees when He looks at you? What potential does He recognize in you? How can this perspective help transform the way you perceive and value yourself?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to see myself as You see me. Today I choose to let go of the distorted image I have of myself and embrace the one You have always had. Thank You, Lord, because You see in me both potential and purpose. Help me to live them fully. Amen.
