Day 25 — Scarcity to Abundance
What do you think you are missing in order to fully embrace the vision God has deposited inside your heart? More time? More money? More experience? More connections?
Scarcity is the perspective that leads us to focus on what we lack instead of recognizing what God has already placed in our hands.
When we look at our lives through the lens of scarcity, we move in fear: we postpone decisions, scale down our dreams, and settle for the minimum. However, when we begin to live with a mindset of abundance, every step becomes an act of faith that opens the door to God’s provision.
Paul tells us: “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8, NIV). In God’s logic, abundance is sufficiency that multiplies when we choose to act in faith and service. It is the shift from the mindset of “I do not have enough” to the perspective of “what I have is already enough to begin.”
We see this principle portrayed in Luke 5:5–7 when Peter had been fishing all night with no success of catching any fish. He was tired and disappointed and when Jesus told him to cast the nets again, he reluctantly responded with: “Master, we have worked hard all night and have not caught anything.” However, despite his discouraged state of mind, he decided to trust Jesus and continued to say: “But because You say so, I will let down the nets” (Luke 5:5, NIV). As a result of Peter’s faithful obedience, he filled two boats with an abundant amount of fish.
So, what changed? The weather conditions and sea were the same, the nets were the same, the boat was the same, but the faith with which Peter acted, and his obedience to the words Jesus had spoken, radically changed the outcome of that situation.
Living with an abundance mindset - rooted in trusting God and His promises - does not mean denying our needs, but it does mean remembering that resources are never the prerequisite for taking action. They are what God provides and multiplies along the way, as we choose to obey His voice.
Reflect on the story in Luke 5, where Peter had fished all night without catching anything, until Jesus told them to cast their nets again and they gathered an extraordinary amount of fish. In which areas of your life do you feel you have been “fishing all night” without success? How could you change your mindset to be more open to receiving a word from Jesus, able to completely transform your circumstances?
Prayer: Lord, teach me to live with a mindset of abundance, rooted in Your faithfulness. Help me to recognize that with You, what I have is already enough to begin. Revive my faith so that I may act with confidence, knowing that You multiply every step I take in obedience to Your Word. Amen.
