How can we imitate the attribute of Faithfulness?
Imitating the attribute of Faithfulness begins with being faithful to God’s word. Jesus faithfully poured three-and-one-half years of training into His apostles. After His resurrection, He dispatched these faithful men to carry His words, making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18–20). Subsequently and uniquely, Jesus called Paul to be an apostle. Paul took the teachings of Scripture and trained other men like Timothy who he then charges to train others (2 Timothy 2:1-2). Our lives should equally be dedicated to honoring Scripture by living according to its teachings and transmitting it faithfully to others.
Just as we need to be faithful to God’s words, we need to be faithful to His works. For instance, the Lord has established government. At creation, the Lord gave Adam dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26–27), then after the universal flood the Lord emphasizes to Noah his governance over creation (Genesis 9:1–7). With the giving of the Law to Moses (Exodus 20) God’s work of government continued. Since the Lord established human government as one of His works, we are to be law-abiding citizens. For a Christian not to obey the laws of the land is tantamount to disobeying our heavenly Father (Romans 13:1-7).
Another work of God that we should be faithful to is the church, which Jesus promised to build (Matthew 16:18). The term "church" means a called-out body; it consists of the universal church made up of believers around the globe and manifests itself today through local churches. Meeting regularly in a local church is essential to the spiritual well-being of the believer (Hebrews 10:25). God provides evangelists, pastors, and teachers to mature the saints (Ephesians 4:11–16), and every believer has at least one spiritual gift to minister to others (1 Peter 4:10). Our heavenly rewards are tied to serving in the local church (1 Corinthians 3:11–15; 2 Corinthians 5:10), so we need to faithfully partner with Jesus’ work of building His church.
As we are to be faithful to God’s words and works, we must be the same toward His people. Just as Joshua loyally supported the leader of Israel, Moses (Exodus 17:8–13), we are to be faithful to the Lord’s chosen leaders. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, “It is better to be faithful than famous.”
Employment Point: Be faithful to God’s words, works, and people.

Attributes of God on F.I.R.E. is a topical study on the nature of God. We will examine fourteen of God’s communicable attributes or perfections that belong to Him that He also shares with us. This study will help us better understand the amazing nature of the Lord, and to pattern ourselves after Him. F.I.R.E. stands for familiarity, interpretation, relationship, and employment. We will use this methodology as we travel through the Scriptures together. Adapted from the book Attributes of God on F.I.R.E., by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
