31
PSALM XXXI.
David’s in dulesome dree, baith houss an’ ha’; bot the Lord, wi’ a glint o’ his ee, redds him but frae sic cumber a’.
Till the sang-maister: ane heigh-lilt o’ David’s.
1I hae lippen’d yerlane, O Lord; #Ps 22:5; 25:2; 71:1; Isaiah 49:23 I sal nane be affrontit for ay: i’ yer rightousness, redd me hame.#Ps 143:1
2Lout me yer lug fu’ gleg;#Ps 71:2 fu’ glegly rax me outowre: be for rock o’ refuge till me; for till saif me, a hainin-towir.#31:2 Heb. for a hainin-towir.
3For my craig an’ my castel are ye;#Ps 18:1 syne sae, for yer ain name’s sake,#Ps 23:3; 25:11 O weise an’ wear ye me.
4Redd me frae the girns they hae happit for me; for yerlane are my stoop sae styth:
5I lippen my life i’ yer han’;#Luke 23:46; Acts 7:59 redd me hame, Lord God o’ truth!
6I thole them nane, wha#31:6 Heb. waird weel lies o’ lightness. mak lies their ain;#Jonah 2:8 bot I lippen a’ on the Lord, mylane.
7I maun fyke an’ be fain i’ yer ain gude-gree; wha thought on my dule, an’ in stretts hae tentet me:
8An’ steekit me nane i’ the han’ o’ the fae; bot my feet set stieve in scowth.#Ps 4:1; 18:19
9Be gude till me, Lord, for ’am cumber’d yet: my ee wears awa in wuth;#Ps 6:7 na, my breath#31:9 Heb. my ghaist or spreit. an’ my bouk, they flicher.
10For my life wears awa in dule, an’ my days#31:10 Heb. yeirs. in sighan; my pith gangs i’ my pine, an’ my banes are swaken.#Ps 32:3; 102:3
11Till my ill-willers a’ ’am a geck,#Ps 41:8; Isaiah 53:4 an’ e’en till my niebors sairly:#Job 19:13; Ps 38:11; 88:8, 18 till my friens ’am a fearsome sight; wha see me therout, flee frae me.#Ps 64:8
12’Am clean out o’ min’ as gane;#Ps 88:4, 5 I thole like a dune bicker.
13For I heard the clash o’ a wheen;#Jer 20:10 on ilka han’ was dread:#Jer 6:25; 20:3; Lam 2:22 whan they gather’d again me like ane, my life they ettled till sned.
14Bot I lippen’d mylane till thee; quo’ I, O Lord, my ain God are ye.
15My tides are a’ i’ yer han’; redd me frae the han’ o’ my faes, an’ frae them wha gird at me.
16Wair a glint o’ yer ee on yer loon;#Num 6:25, 26; Ps 4:6; 67:1 saif me for yer gudeness’ sake:
17O Lord, lat me ne’er hing down, for loud till yerlane I scraigh:#Ps 25:2 lat a’ the ill hing down, an’ steek their gab i’ the graif.#1 Sam 2:9
18Lat liean lips gang whush,#Ps 12:3 that carp at the rightous wi’ scorn an’ glee.#1 Sam 2:3; Ps 94:4; Jude 1:15
19What walth o’ yer gude ye hain,#Isaiah 64:4; 1 Cor 2:9 for them wha hae dread o’ thee; ye hae ettled for them wha lippen yerlane, tho’ sons o’ the yird suld see.#31:19 Heb. fornenst the sons o’ yird.
20Ye sal hap them hame i’ the lown o’ yer leuk,#Ps 27:5; 32:7 frae the glow’r#31:20 Heb. haughty glow’r o’ the carl. o’ the haughty carl; ye sal hap them frae sight in a canny neuk, frae the canglin clash o’ the warl’.
21Prais’d be the Lord for his wonner#31:21 Heb. made his gudeness wonnerfu’. Ps 17:7 o’ gude, till me, in a brugh weel-biggen.#1 Sam 23:7
22For mysel, quo’ I i’ my haste,#1 Sam 23:26; Ps 116:11 ’Am sned-aff frae afore yer een:#Isaiah 38:11, 12; Lam 3:54; Jonah 2:4 nochtless, ye hearken’d my scraigh o’ dule, whan I sighet fu’ sair till yerlane.
23Lo’e ye the Lord, a’ sants o’ his ain:#Ps 34:9 leal-folk the Lord fen’s; bot the warker o’ pride he pays hame.
24Be stieve, an’ yer heart sal thrive;#Ps 27:14 a’ ye, wha lippen the Lord himlane.
