Toe Jesus in die skuit klim, het sy dissipels Hom gevolg. Skielik het daar 'n hewige storm op die see losgebars, sodat die golwe oor die skuit geslaan het. Maar Jesus het geslaap. Hulle kom toe en maak Hom wakker en sê: “Here, red ons! Ons vergaan!” Hy sê vir hulle: “Waarom is julle bang, kleingelowiges?” Daarna het Hy opgestaan en die wind en die see hard aangespreek, en dit het doodstil geword. Die mense het hulle verwonder en gesê: “Watter soort mens is hy dat selfs die wind en die see hom gehoorsaam?”
