Boonop het die swaar gordyn wat die allerheiligste deel van die tempel van die ander vertrekke afgeskei het, ook middeldeur geskeur. Toe roep Jesus skielik baie hard uit: “My Vader, Ek is besig om te sterf. Ontvang My asseblief daar by U!” Daarna het Hy sy laaste asem uitgeblaas en gesterf. Toe die Romeinse offisier wat daar by die kruis aan diens was dit hoor, het hy vir God gesê: “Hierdie man was regtig onskuldig. Hy het die hele tyd net gedoen wat U sê!”
