Jesus sê toe vir hulle: “Maak die kanne vol water.” En hulle het dit tot bo toe volgemaak. Daarop sê Hy vir hulle: “Skep nou daarvan uit en neem dit vir die hoofkelner.” Hulle het dit toe geneem. Toe die hoofkelner die water proe wat wyn geword het – hy het nie geweet waar dit vandaan kom nie, hoewel die dienaars wat die water uitgeskep het, geweet het – roep hy die bruidegom en sê vir hom: “'n Mens sit eers die goeie wyn voor, en eers wanneer hulle begin dronk word, dié van swakker gehalte; maar jy het die goeie wyn tot nou teruggehou.” Dit het Jesus by Kana in Galilea gedoen, die begin van sy tekens. Hy het sy heerlikheid geopenbaar en sy dissipels het in Hom geglo.
