Kom dan julle verpligtings teenoor almal na: betaal belasting aan dié wat dit van julle vra, tolgeld en alle soortgelyke heffings aan dié wat dít van julle vereis; en respekteer en eer almal aan wie julle dit verskuldig is. Betaal alles wat julle verskuldig is, maar die een rekening wat julle altyd verskuldig sal bly, is om mekaar lief te hê. As jy jou naaste liefhet, vervul jy die wet. Want elke verbod, dié teen egbreuk, teen moord, teen diefstal, teen verkeerde begeertes – en watter ander een daar ook mag wees – word opgesom in hierdie een groot opdrag: “Jy moet jou medemens net so liefhê soos jouself.” Die liefde doen niemand kwaad aan nie.
