When You’re Forgotten

Devotional:

I once worked hard on something, gave it everything I had—and then got passed over. No recognition. No follow-up. Nothing. I didn’t want applause, but I did want to feel like it mattered. Being forgotten hurts.

You might know that feeling. Maybe you’re serving, working, caring for others, and no one sees it. You wonder if your effort is making any difference. You wonder if God still remembers you.

Joseph had a moment like that. After years in prison, he helped a fellow inmate—Pharaoh’s cupbearer—by interpreting a dream. He asked for just one thing in return: “When it all goes well for you, remember me” (Genesis 40:14). But when the cupbearer got out, he forgot. For two whole years.

Two years of silence. Two years of being overlooked. Two years of wondering if the dream was dead.

But here’s what we learn from Joseph’s story: being forgotten by people is not the same as being forgotten by God. In fact, while Joseph waited in prison, God was working behind the scenes—preparing the exact moment Joseph would be needed. And when Pharaoh finally had a dream no one could interpret, the cupbearer remembered. Joseph was called out, and everything changed in a day (Genesis 41:14).

God’s timing isn’t always our timing, but it’s never late.

You might feel invisible right now. Like the world moved on without you. But the truth is, your faithfulness is not wasted. God sees it. And when the time is right, He knows exactly how to lift you up.

Don’t confuse delay with denial. Just because people forget doesn’t mean God has.

Prayer:

God, I feel overlooked sometimes. But I trust that You haven’t forgotten me. Help me wait with hope, knowing You see what no one else does. Remind me that You’re always working, even when nothing’s moving. Amen.
