Faithful in the Middle

Devotional:

There was a season in my life where I felt like I was stuck. I wasn’t failing, but I definitely wasn’t moving forward. I kept thinking, What’s the point of this? Is anything I’m doing making a difference? It felt like I was doing the right things—but getting nowhere.

Maybe you’ve been there too. You’re trying to stay faithful, but nothing’s changing. You’re showing up, serving, trusting—but it feels like no one sees it. You wonder if any of it really matters.

Joseph knew that feeling. After being sold as a slave, he ended up in Egypt—alone, overlooked, and far from the dream God gave him. But instead of shutting down, he leaned in. In Genesis 39, we read that Joseph worked hard in Potiphar’s house, gained trust, and even got promoted. Then, just as things were looking up, he was falsely accused and thrown in prison (Genesis 39:20).

But here’s what’s wild: even in prison, Joseph kept serving. He kept showing up. He kept trusting. And again, the Bible says, “The Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:21).

Sometimes we think faith is about waiting for the big breakthrough. But often, faith looks like staying faithful in the middle of the mess. Joseph didn’t wait until he was in the palace to honour God—he did it in the pit, the house, and the prison. That’s what made him ready for the future God had in mind.

What if the same is true for you?

If you’re in a middle place right now—where things are unclear, tiring, or just ordinary—don’t underestimate what God can do with your faithfulness. You’re not stuck. You’re being trained. And the habits you build here will carry you into the next season.

Reflection Question:

Where is God asking you to stay faithful—even when you feel unseen or stuck?

Prayer:

God, help me stay faithful in the middle. I don’t want to wait for everything to make sense before I trust You. Use this season to shape me, strengthen me, and prepare me. Amen.
